Another Monday. Have you had a bad day? A bad week? A bad year? Living with character is a lot easier when things are going well. So what do you do when things are difficult? Try focusing on how you can help others. It's amazing how showing kindness to others can get your mind off your own troubles and improve your outlook.

On our retreats, we challenge students to stand up and step in when they see someone being bullied. But character doesn't always need to be demonstrated by a loud, public gesture. Quiet acts of character can be just as influential. This week, write a note to someone in your class who needs encouragement or include a classmate, who normally sits alone, in an activity. The world may never know what you did, but your classmate will.
