I learned some cool new stuff at NETA this year. Here is a snapshot of my favorites:
Here's a great digital formative assessment tool. You can create boards and the students type cards to add to the board. This is the home page that shows all of your boards. Here is the board where you can post questions for the students to respond to.
Here is a new website I heard about last week called bookcreator. It's a great way to allow kids to create a wide variety of books and have an authentic audience. Below is the link to different ways to use book creator. You can sign up for free, but there is a limit to how many books can be created. It could be a great extension activity for kids who need a little something extra. Here's a sample of a book I created for an example.
No, this is not what Mr. Maltsberger calls me. :) It is the conference I have the privilege of attending this week. Mrs. Vandenberg and I will be gaining as much knowledge as we can at the end of the week and be sharing with you how we plan to implement it into our classrooms. Here's what I do so far in my class to help kids that "need more." When kids finish their work, they have the opportunity to take their learning a step further. If they complete 3 in a row, they can throw out their lowest grade in class! The categories I have here (which change periodically) are:
Sign Language - spellingcity.com has your spelling words as they look finger spelled. Review a book - tell your friends why they should read the great book you have read! Technology - sumdog is a favorite math app / website in our classroom Plan your dream vacation - find out everything you need to go on your dream vacation Write a story - be creative or come up with a sequel to your favorite Interest - research a topic you're interested in, show what you learned in a visual way Super Sleuth - use the reading series super sleuth activities New Olympic Sport - come up with a new sport for the Olympics! It is already time for us as the Reboot community to come together in person. November sounded so far away back in June! I am certainly not thinking of this as the end, since this process has been such a good start to my school year. I'm looking forward to continuing communication with this group and see what else this year has in store for us!
The reboot process has been a huge blessing to my teaching career. I have implemented more new ideas successfully this year than every before. It was extremely motivating for me to be a part of a group of extremely driven individuals and to learn so many new things from them. I feel like this started me on a good roll and will help me continue to bring new ideas into my classroom as a result of the camp.
I am working on staying motivated and energized for the new school year this summer. Being given the opportunity to attend ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) conference in Atlanta, Georgia this summer was a nice boost for staying motivated. We learned so much and gained a notebook full of new ideas to use in the classroom. Also, attending Reboot Camp at esu6 has given me a focus and helped me set goals to accomplish in the next 4 months. (These goals are outlined in my "Reboot" tab.) Another way I have worked on staying motivated is by creating this website and trying to make it as helpful and user friendly as possible for students, parents, and colleagues.
