There's no perfect roadmap for life, so sometimes it's difficult to feel confident that you're choosing the best path forward. If you're feeling directionless, let your sense of purpose be your compass. What fills you with joy? What do you do that fills others with joy? What problem do you want to solve? Who do you want to help, and how? Asking yourself these questions at home, at school or at work can help you re-energize and make sense of your personal journey.

Living with purpose can feel like a stretch. Amid classes, homework, chores and other responsibilities, it's hard to make room for greater goals. Despite the obstacles, don't be afraid to set lofty ambitions — just, remember to climb toward them rung by rung. Challenge yourself to practice that instrument daily, to run for just a few minutes longer every time, to read a book that's a little harder than the last. Sooner than you know it, your distant goals will be within reach.
Goals. We set them up ... and sometimes they knock us down. But that's no reason to ignore your ambitions. The second half of the school year is a great time to take another purposeful shot at your goals. Ask a teacher to help you tackle a subject that's been challenging for you. Try out for a new spring sport, the school play or an academic club. Reach out and make new connections with the students in your classes. Whatever your goal, take the first step today. And remember that it's okay if you stumble along the way.

In the New Year, it's tradition to make a resolution — to set an intention for the year ahead. But as our 2019 calendars become crowded with classes and homework and chores and work and activities and responsibilities ... it's easy to forget about our chosen purposes. This year, stay on track by first identifying what guides you toward your purpose, even when life gets busy. Maybe it's conversations with a teacher, friend or family member. Maybe it's meditation, an inspiring quote or journaling. Whatever it is, use it in the months ahead to keep you accountable and to remind you of your greater purpose. |
