We all know that we only get one shot at making a first impression ... but we get plenty of opportunities to make our first impressions of the day! Think of how many people you greet between home and school, and other activities. Those initial encounters can set the tone for your interactions the rest of the day. Even a simple smile can serve as a shortcut to a more positive environment. So why not lead with kindness today?

We often think of heroes as people who have supernatural powers, go by awesome code names and accessorize with capes. Superheroes can teach us a lot about being forces for good, but it's the everyday heroes who make a real impact on our world. The key to being an everyday hero is to show kindness to everyone — and that's something anybody can do! Give it a try today. You could say "hi" to the new kid, invite someone to sit with you on the bus or volunteer to help your teacher. The more acts of kindness you do, the more powerful of an everyday hero you'll become — and you don't even need a cape.
Before watching this, I want you to think about something. Does it really matter what other people think of us? I mean, really???? I get it, it's really easy to worry about what others think about our clothes, our hair, our actions. But does it really matter? Your challenge for the rest of the school year is to worry less. Don't worry about what others think of you and just BE YOU! It will be a challenge, and you're going to have to use some positive self-talk. Yes, you're going to have to talk to yourself. Tell yourself how great you are, because you are! Remind yourself of all the good you have in you and around you. That is going to change your whole life. Oh, and dance. :) On our Kindness Retreats, we tell elementary students that kindness is like a boomerang. (If you keep sending it out into the world, eventually it will come back to you.) But kindness can take a lot of different forms. It can look like sending an encouraging message to a friend, playing with someone new at recess, listening to the teacher, or maybe even giving someone a flower. Whatever it looks like, pick one act of kindness to try today.
